Boy Scout Troop 240

...is alive and well at St. John the Baptist Church. In late November, the Troop went on a weekend winter backpack trip in the Waterloo Recreation Area. The scouts learned many new skills. How to keep water from freezing at 9 degrees, pitching a tent in four inches of snow and dressing in layers to stay warm, just to name a few. We hiked about 7 miles through the wilderness. Along the way, welearned how to read a map, orient ourselves using a compass and how to properly adjust and pack a backpack. In December we helped out at "Breakfast with Santa," which was a very rewarding experience for all of us. This is our way of saying thanks to St. John's for sponsoring our troop. At the end of January we will be spending the weekend in a cabin near Mason Michigan. More on that event in our next installment.
